The University of Calgary proudly welcomed Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the Ward of the 21st Century Research and Innovation Centre on July 7. As the only Canadian university on Their Royal Highnesses’ first official tour, it was an historic opportunity to highlight some outstanding examples of the university’s research enterprise. The royal couple took part in interactive demonstrations that illustrated the range of research projects carried out at the W21C, which is a test-site for novel hospital design, new approaches to healthcare delivery and innovative medical technologies. At one point, they helped “save” iStan, a human patient simulator, from a heart attack.
